Credit checks in the USA

I'll be moving to the US shortly and I'm curious about thecredit
checks there. I'm from the Uk and I'm wondering if when I apply for a
mortgage/loan/credit card if they'll be checking my credit back in the
UK? I'm considering taking a small loan before I move so that my
wife & I will be able to put a down payment on a house.
Mortgage is different, but otherwise no.
Which also means that you have a small to nil chance of securing a loan.
