Baby Jewelry Ring
My wife has pierced nipples (about 9 months along) with 12 ga CBR's.
We are expecting a baby at the end of june and I am wondering if
anyone can offer suggestions and comments to assist her with
breastfeeding with pierced nipples.
I also figure I need to change the rings, and am not sure if fixed
bead rings or barbells are better.
No reason your wife should not be able to breastfeed with her nips
pierced.
It will probably be better and easier if she uses barbells that fit
well against the nipple but are not too tight. Make sure the balls are
tight each time the baby nurses!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!
Some women can remove the jewlery while nursing- OK if she can and its
more comfortable, but not absolutly necessary. Try it with the jewlery
in- the baby will get used to it.
Only remove piercing if serious problems with infection or pain- Don't
be discouraged by docswho don't understand piercing.
PFIQ (Gauntlet Piercing in LA - Jim Ward) did an article on "Mother Magic"
about 10 years ago. Basically, the mother had a smaller diameter and
smaller gauge - as I recall a 16 gauge, 5/8" diameter. One of the pics
even showed a drop of milk dangling from the ring. Mother and baby did
fine - and it saved the pierce.
My wife has had her nipples pierced twice, and all I can say is taking
the rings out for more than a few hours, will cause problems getting them
back. On suggestion to hastening the healing process is to have two rings
(smaller gauges) or a ring and barbell in each pierce. It is amazing what
a difference in healing times getting some air on the new tissue makes.
