skincare/acne treatment: Retin-A review
I know there have been discussions on here before about acne
treatment, and I thought some people might appreciate a review of
something that's really helping me out at the moment.
My face has always been an irritated red even when I don't wear
make-up(since I was ten, basically), and even when I'm not breaking
out particularly bad. No matter how much base I put on, the redness
would come through. As pale olive as I am, it was very obvious.
About three weeks ago my dermatologist prescribed Retin-A, a topical
cream you apply once a day, and the improvement already is amazing.
The redness is shrinking from the edges of my face inward(i.e. my nose
still looks a little red, but the rest of my face finally matches the
rest of me). My breakouts have slowed down considerably, and even my
coworkers have mentioned my face looks a lot better. Supposedly it
takes six weeks to notice any difference, but I'm very happy with the
results already.
The only drawback is that for the first two weeks it did dry my skin
out. I don't wear make-up most of the time, so it didn't bother me,
but I don't know how good base would look over flaking skin.
The cost is moderate/high: getting a generic of Retin A ran me $60 for
a two-month tube. The dermatologist also mentioned that I need to
avoid direct sunlight as much as possible... not a problem for most of
us, I would think.
