Antique Masonic Jewelry
My father recently passed away and I have a Masonic necklace that he always
wore (he was a Master Mason). I personally know very little about
Freemasonry so forgive me if I am asking the wrong questions in the wrong
place!
The item in question (two JPEGs at
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/jblanton/lst?&.dir=/Masonic+Jewlery&.sr...
iew=t) is, I believe, actually a pocket watch fob but my father wore it on a chain around his neck. It is a rose
gold sphere about 3/4 inch in diameter and has four ornate clasps. Undoing
he clasps allows the sphere to open into a cross that consists of 6 4-sided
pyramids with various symbols. The two jpegs show the fob closed and also
opened into the cross.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any ideas on how/where I could
get more information? All we know about it is that my mother bought it in
England in the 70's from an antique dealer.
What a unique keepsake you have of your father. I have never seen anything
like it and out of curiosity have marked this thread. I really hope you keep
it. Maybe one of the Brothers from the U.K. can shed light on the item, I
have been impressed with the ingenuity I have seen from their area of the
world in creating Masonic jewelry and such that does not appear to be so at
a glance. I feel sorry that they have the need but am impressed none the
less.
