Antique Design Jewelry
One of these days I'll have to go back to the thrift
shop. I think I need to get rid of some stuff first, though. My mother has
started giving away her things, and my sister just sent me two boxes. Among
other things, I now have all my mother's jewelry to sort through. There are
a few items of costume jewelry (including two pairs of Red Hat earrings),
but most of them are things my Dad gave her, and he always bought good
stuff. Once I pick out the things I especially want, I'll let my daughter
take anything she wants. Then I guess I'll store the rest for the time
being. In the meantime, I have to figure out where to put three jewelry
boxes. I think I need to sort out my jewelry, which is mostly cheap stuff.
There are some real treasures among the jewelry, though. My mother used to
wear a small basket on a chain. My Dad carved it for her out of a peach
pit. I've coveted that since the first time I saw it. It is now mine.
There are also several bracelets he made for her out of stainless steel, to
go with the ones he made me, as well as a pin and some screw-on earrings of
the same material. There are also a couple of pins he made from agate he
dug up on our camping trips near Mojave.
The entertainment center my son found is really pretty and in perfect
condition. My neighbor,Diane,is Queen of curbside finds. Often,we go
together. One man divorced his wife and ,wow,we got great things. She told
him to just throw the stuff away because she didn't ever want to see him
again. Even Jewelry! But I told him he should at least hock that because
much of it had great worth and he was raising his 2 kids. One time,I was
chasing Diane down the street to get some hanging baskets. I said,"No Fair!
I had to park my car! You got a head start!". Her answer? "
