Sleep as anti-aging medicine
Sleep represents a natural recuperative mode in humans.
Suspended animation has long been suggested as a means of
extending lifespan - so a fairly obvious anti-aging strategy
would be to spend more time sleeping.
There's some evidence that less sleep is correlated
with better health - but that could be because better
health results in a reduced need for recuperation
via sleep.
One anti-aging candidate compound (melatonin) has inducing
sleep as one of its primary effects.
However, I have not seen much work on inducing sleep as
a possible means of improving overall health.
Does anyone know if this avenue has been explored at all -
aside from the melatonin research?
