Origin of the Term "Anti-Aging" ?

I wonder when the term "anti-aging" was first used in scientific
publications, and in the lay literature ?

Who coined this term ?

Is this term listed in any dictionary or encyclopedia ?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
-I believe it was the Fountain of Youth... Ponce De Leon... researcher

-Thank you. My question was about the term *ANTI-AGING*, rather than
the term "fountain of youth".

These are two different terms:

If you make a search of the scientific literature for the term
"anti-aging" you will find that this term is routinely used now in
scientific literature (like the terms "anti-oxidant" or "antibiotic",
for example), including the texts of scientific articles, their
abstracts, key words selected by the authors, and even the titles of
the scientific articles.

I have recently performed such an analysis of the scientific
literature and published these findings in the form of an article with
self-explanatory title: "Scientific Legitimacy of the Term
"Anti-Aging." (Journal of Anti-Aging Medicine, 2002, 5(2): 239-240.).
This article contains the list of legitimate anti-aging studies
published in reputable journals by established researchers, which have
the term "anti-aging" even in the title of these publications. Full
text of this article is available at:

Recently updated list of legitimate scientific anti-aging articles is
available at:

Still some questions remain unanswered:

(1) When was the term "anti-aging" first used in scientific
publications, and in the lay literature ?

(2) Who coined this term ?

(3) Is this term listed in any dictionary or encyclopedia ?

Any help and advice on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you !
