Skin Care
About a year before I was diagnosed, I started having skin problems.
Small, dry, itchy patches here and there. Flaky skin in the beard and
eyebrows.
The dermatologist sed it wuz "seborrheic dermatitis", which i suspect is
medspeak for "dry, itchy patches".
Anyway, I now know that most of us have dry skin. How about a new
thread on skin care? What sorts of things have folks found to be
helpful in terms of soaps, cleansers, moisturizers, that sort of thing?
-I have the same condition. Was told many years ago to use shampoo with coal
tar...sounds yummy! What I have found best to keep flakes and itching down
is Denorex shampoo. If I use 2 to 3 times a week patches are much smaller
and don't itch. Can be found in almost any store with shampoos. When I
don't use for a couple weeks problem gets worse. Has never gone away, don't
know if because I do slide in treatment or never curable. Note, YMMV.
-Vitamin E oil was recommended to me by a doc who recently performed surgery on
both sides of my ankle (after breaking it in 3 places). The horrible dry skin
around the incisions and under the cast/boot was helped with the oil. Vaseline
can actually have a drying effect. I know Lubriderm is recommend by a a lot of
dermitologists and that is what I use or St. Ives Vit. A & E Lotion. As for
those "other parts," restricted to us women, email me privately and I'll tell
you what has helped me. Have you tried Flents ear drops? I too have had trouble
with a lot of ear aches and this seems to help.
You can buy MSM at the store. Interestingly, this is what I used to give one of
my horses for arthritis and other joint conditions - but in far greater
quantities!
