Acne Treatment
my doctor suggested today that I go on acutane because nothing is
working for my acne. Face, back, chest, buttocks are gross. I am
allergic(severely) to tetracycline, which used to work.
The problem is that my husband and I are in infertility treatment and we
have to put treatment on hold for 6 months if I take this stuff. The doc
said I take it for 4 months and two months after that I CANNOT get preg.
I have to be put on birth control continously for that time. I have to
get liver, kidney, sugar and a pregnancy test every month before
starting another cycle of it to make sure my body is ok. I also am
schedualed for a surgery. Dont know if I can take it and have surgery. I
have enough illness from my infertity meds and diagnosis, so I am
concerned I will be very ill.
I REALLLLLLLY need to know every side effect there is to it because I
have less than two weeks to decide.
-from what it sounds like, put the accutane treatment on hold. The
biggest reason here would be the surgery. Accutane has a big effect on the
skins healing process. It causes you to heal slower and also scar easier.
Before my dermatologist put me on the medication he informed me I shouldn't
have any surgeries or cosmetic procedures done during and for a year post
accutane treatment.
Also..about the pregnancy issue...accutane says to wait 2 months, but my
dermatologist recommended 6--- "Just to be absolutely safe" (the deformities
children risk if you're taking accutane while pregnant are absolutely
HORRIBLE). Also, your going to feel like crap while your on the
accutane---I would wait until you were really up to it. Sounds like you have
a lot going on already.
I'd wait if I were you, but talk to your doctor about all this.
-Forget the acne the infertility treatment is far more important.
