acne scar and power peel
I have quite a bit of depressed type acne scar.
when i ask my derm about chemical peel, he just said that power peel would
be better. It is not possible for me to do laser surgery, money and time
wise. What would be my option?
-My advice would be to save up for laser surgery or dermabrasion. Based upon
your description of "quite a bit of depressed type acne scar," you will need
many microdermabrasion treatments to make any sort of improvment, and this
cost could very well add up to the cost of a laser or dermabrasion treatment.
However, if you cannot take the time out needed for these surgeries, perhaps
your best option is a number of microdermabrasion treatments.
-If by depressed-type scar you are referring to a more shallow scar,
rather than an icepick type scar, then it could be possible that a
microdermabrasion treatment series could help - it's just that you won't
know for sure until it's been done (and paid for A chemical peel
wouldn't necessarily do the trick, laser would be better. If you were
to go ahead with microdermabrasion series (BTW PowerPeel is a registered
trademark of Aesthetic Laser Inc.), you would want them to be done by an
esthetician in a physician's office, as in order to get the results you
want, it is highly likely that the amount of tissue needed to be removed
would result in drawing blood - something that is not looked upon kindly
by either State Boards of Cosmetology or insurance liability carriers
Additionally, any wound to the depth needed for scar 'resurfacing'
would possibly need a topical anesthetic, along with some sort of
dressing afterward.
Just go into it with as much info as you can get. Please don't hesitate
to inquire if you want more details about microdermabrasion.
