Acid Reflux Wedge
I have been taking priolosec for about a year for an
ulcer that developed from years of NSaids. I was switched to a cheaper acid
reducer like prilosec and it seems that my stomach and throat and mouth are
on fire. I'm having trouble sleeping due to acid reflux and all. Since it
didn't seem to help, I completely got off this drug and am currently off all
meds due to a TKR scheduled this month. This troat, mouth and stomach thing has
not worsened, but it is really bothersome. I've been taking Tums and Rolaids
to find some relief until I can get it straightened out, but it hasn't fazed
it. Will I have to go back on prilosec and stay on it the rest of my life?
It seems to be eased by morning with no food on my stomach. Would fasting
help? If there is no relief by tomorrow, I plan to call my primary care dr.
and check what to do. It all started with the burning tongue. Could it be
something else besides this acid thing
Can anyone in the group help me please?
Until you can get back on medicine that controls your
stomach acid, elevate the head of your bed about 4". Try to sleep
laying on your left side. Because of the way the valve works, you
will have about 15% less acid moving up. By yourself a wedge pillow or
even two if you roll around allot and put them side to side. No
caffeine-cokes or coffee, tea or chocolate. Get on a medicine that
works for you and stay on it. No food two hours before you lay down
and that includes naps.
The damage that acid reflux does to the valve in your stomach can
only be repaired by operation. Like your heart valves they do not
repair themselves. If you have acid in your throat and mouth often, you
need to make the changes I have outlined above and it will help because
I have done them and still do some of it but its hard to elevate a water
bed. I cant understand stopping prilosce that far ahead of an
operation but thats OK because there is more involved than I know about.
