Acid Reflux Surgery
Well, I had my neck surgery (fusion, laminectomy) a week ago today.
The doc took bone from my hip to replace some bad discs in my neck.
I'm not really feeling that bad from it.
I am a little sore on my hip- but nothing unbearable-
more like a bruised feeling.
The ONLY big problem it seems is
my acid reflux got VERY irritated during
surgery - due to the breathing tube
put down my mouth.
I am burping constanly-
and feel how I did before
I got my reflux diagnx'd
like I have a HUGE lump in my throat !!
And some discomfort/ and difficulty swallowing.
I imagine most is due to swelling- but
I don't understand this burping.
I sure am fun to be around now-
can anyone in the group help me please?
I had the same surgery at C5-C6 10 years ago. Did you have a
fusion or a laminectomy. These are different. I had a discectomy and
fusion where they remove the disc and replace it with something else,
in my case bone from my hip as you stated you had. A laminectomy is (I
think) where they just remove the herniated section of the disc. It is
possible you did have both at different locations. A laminectomy and a
discectomy at different levels. Believe me you will be lucky if that
acid reflux problem is the only problem you have. I can't imagine what
that lump is in your throat, is it something pressing on your esophogus
from a mistake with the surgery. I would contact my doctor pronto and if
he says it is swelling from the surgery I would not believe him. Was it
there before surgery? Regarding the surgery itself I hope you don't find
out what I did. That your surgery was a failure. I can't remember
exactly how long after surgery I realized mine was a failure (and it was
done by the Chief of Neurosurgery at Mass. General Hosp. in Boston,
Mass. It was a matter of months. Like I said 10 years ago and I never
went back to work. I am not sure how but when I realized my surgery was
a failure I knew I would never work again. I have learned the majority
of back and neck surgeries are failures. If you want more pain a sure
bet is a second surgery
