Acid Reflux Gerd

My friend is having some problems with GERD and Acid reflux and she can't make the decision about this.
Could somebody explain the difference between GERD and Acid reflux and just
plain old heartburn.

Heartburn' is a symptom which means whatever the patient using it means by
it. It's imprecise because it has nothing to do with the heart and any
symptom of 'heartburn' could in fact be due to heart disease. GERD and acid
reflux are the same thing, although the term GERD is more precise because it
doesn't presuppose the existence of acid, identifies the condition as
causing disease/suffering (not all reflux is symptomatic or harmful), and
points out that the specific problem is between the stomach and esophagus.
