Acid Reflux Food

I am off work for a few weeks because I was in so much pain and accompanying
emotional distress that I literally couldn't see straight. I was trying to
complete some work, but I just kept being dizzy and nauseaus (sorry for the
spelling but it's almost 3 am here). Anyhow, here I am a week later, and I
have some kind of gastro-reflux problem. (happens all the time). I think I
better eat alone for the rest of my life...l seem to 'burp up' dinner so to
speak...anyone else have this horrible problem
Can anyone help me please?

I subscribe to the theory that FMS is an over-acid condition in the
body. I see Acid Reflux as a more advanced symptom of this condition.
The body is a self-preserving machine. It functions such that it will
do the least damage to itself. When you eat, the acid in the stomach
assists in the digestion of the food. The enzymes which help to
digest proteins function only in the very acidic pH range. When the
contents of the stomach is ready to pass into the intestinal tract,
the chyme (all your food mushed up into a creamy substance) has a very
acid pH. The stomach lining is designed to withstand this acid pH,
the intestinal lining is not. So pancreatic juice (alkaline about 8.8
pH) is used to neutralize the acidic chyme as it passes out of the
stomach so that it will not damage the intestines.
As I said the body is self-preserving, everything that it does is
correct in creating the least amount of damage to it. So if the
contents of the stomach is acid and there is not enough neutralizing
juices available the contents of the stomach remain there until such a
time that it can safely pass along. If the food remains in the
stomach too long then even the stomach gets to the point that it needs
to get rid of the contents. Since it cannot move the chyme safely
forward, it pushes it back the other direction, reflux.
So I would recommend starting to include more alkaline producing foods
into your diet, especially fresh and raw vegetables.
Antacids are often used for this condition but they do not neutralize
excess acid in the stomach. They neutralize ALL the acid in the
stomach. Remember, proteins are only broken down in the acid pH
range.
I recommend the book "Acid and Alkaline" by Herman Aihara. If you
cannot find it in your local health food store I can get you a copy.
