Accpac Crm to a client in San Diego
I have a question about the SQL included with SBS 2003 Premium.
I am trying to sell an SBS 2003 Premium server to a client in San Diego. The company that
will be installing ACCPAC CRM says that it needs SQL 2000, and that SQL is a
RAM-eating pig that will eventually consume all physical RAM. They would
prefer to see a completely separate server for the SQL and ACCPAC CRM
installation.
The server will have 3GB of RAM in it, but that will only delay the
consumption if there is no way to set a limit. Is there a way to limit the
amount of RAM that SQL can use in SBS 2003 Premium?
Is the version of SQL included in SBS 2003 actually a full SQL server, or is
it a light version?
Thanks for the help!

The SQL that comes with SBS is the basic SQL. The only limitation is that
you are NOT permitted to install the SQL that comes with SBS onto a separate
server.
You can control the amount of RAM for SQL using Enterprise Manager but
if the company is telling you that they want a separate server, I would cut
that server down to 1-2GB of RAM and put that savings into another server.
What I have found if you go the route that we all knows will work but go
against the company who is installing the SQL app, the moment something goes
wrong, they are going to blame you for not listening to them.
Remember that you are going to have to purchase SQL Server and Windows 2003
Server licenses and then SQL CALs in addition to the SBS CAL's.
You can also get sbs premium and name the domain a different name and as
long as the username/password are the same (PTA) then you can save cash
there.
