18k Diamond Necklace

My FH's grandmother is really very sweet. She offered to let me borrow
an old pin. It was was her mother's and the only piece of jewelry that
made it out of the house that burnt down (apparently something that
happened a long time ago.) Suffice as to say, it's a very sentimental
piece of jewelry to her and I'm honored that she wants to lend it to me.
Could you wear it pinned to a fine white silk cord around your neck?
Or on a wider ribbon like a victorian necklace?
(We were at a wedding a few years ago where the bride had on a
god-awful fake looking diamond necklace that looked like brass and
rhinestones. It didn't match either her dress or personality.
I only discovered at the end of the day, when she retrieved it,
that it belonged to the new wife of her groom's grandfather.
"Grandma" had insisted she wear it as her "something old" the
morning of the wedding. Now knowing the source, I'm sure it was
18k and real stones, but it was really ugly. I give the bride a
lot of credit for wearing it to make an old lady happy. I'm not
sure I'd have had that kind of maturity at that age.)
